Certified Copies of Vital Statistics Certified copies of all vital records (birth, death, marriage, civil union, and domestic partnership) are available through the Clerk's office. The fee for copies of vital records is $10.00. I.D. is required to acquire copies of vital records. Acceptable forms of I.D. are a photo driver’s license, vehicle registration, passport, green card, county I.D., utility bill. If you do not have a photo driver’s license, two other forms of I.D. must be presented. The only people who may apply for a certified record are the subject of the record, the subject's parents, legal guardian, spouse, child (of age) or grandchild (of age). Copies can also be requested by mail. A written request containing all particulars of the record (name(s), date, place, etc.), a clear photocopy of the requested I.D. and a check made payable to "Harding Township" is required. Couples that are to be married in the State of New Jersey must apply for a Marriage License. If the Bride or Groom lives in New Jersey the couple can apply in either municipality where the Bride or Groom resides. When neither applicant is a resident of the State of New Jersey they must apply in the municipality where the ceremony will occur. The couple must bring a witness with them when they complete the application. Valid I.D. is also required. If either of the applicants has been in a marriage, civil union, or domestic partnership in the past, they must bring with them evidence of legal dissolution of the marriage/union/partnership or a certified copy of a death certificate if applicable. The fee for a Marriage License is $28.00. The Marriage License can be picked up after a 72 hour waiting period, and is valid for 30 days thereafter. Civil Union Applications Effective February 19, 2007 couples may apply for a Civil Union License. Civil Union couples shall have all the same benefits, protections and responsibilities under the law, whether they derive from the statute, administrative or court rule, public policy, common law or any other source of civil law, as are granted to spouses in a Marriage. For two persons to establish a Civil Union in this state, they must: Not be in a party to another Civil Union, Domestic Partnership or Marriage (with another individual). Couples registered as Domestic Partners may enter into a Civil Union with the same individual. Be of the same sex Be at least 18 years of age, except for the consent of minors in section 10 of the statutes.
