    Harding Police Services Print E-mail
    Patrol  Division -  is comprised of uniformed officers using marked and unmarked patrol vehicles to answer emergency and service calls. The Patrol Division is responsible for preventative patrol activities, discovery of public hazards and delinquency causing situations, as well as for all initial calls for police, fire and medical assistance. The officers are responsible for the preliminary investigation of crimes, traffic enforcement, DWI detection and apprehension and drug interdiction. Officers are required to enforce all applicable laws and arrest those that violate them. They are required to process those arrested, prepare written reports to document their actions and appear in court when required to assist in their prosecution.
    Officers often are required to direct and control traffic, conduct accident investigations, perform crime prevention activities as well as community and public relations. Officers also routinely perform business and vacant house checks, provide funeral escorts and cover crossing guard posts when the guard is unavailable.

    Investigative Division - Detective responsibility is to conduct follow-up investigations of all  criminal matters. Detectives assigned to this division develop and maintain sources of  intelligence information pertaining to criminal activity. Based on the information they gather, they also initiate investigations. They review all criminal activity reported within the township and correlate information as it may pertain to open investigations. 
    They work closely with neighboring police agencies as well as county, state and federal law enforcement agencies. When necessary, they apply for and execute search warrants, they maintain fingerprint and photograph files and they prepare cases for prosecution. The detectives are also responsible for storing and securing evidence relating to investigations and found property. Additionally, they perform other administrative tasks such as police applicant background checks, ABC license investigations, firearms applications processing.

    Community Services – Officers in this area are responsible for DARE, crime prevention, and community projects such as child seat belt safety, and senior citizen call in.     Administration – this area comprises all computer related activities and;

    Records - The Records Bureau is open from 8:30am to 4:30pm, Monday thru Friday.

    All Reports take approximately seven days before they become available.

    Fee Schedule
    In accordance with Township Ordinance and the Open Public Records Act, NJSA 47-1A-1, et seq., the fees to be charged for discovery reports and materials are as follows:

    • $.75 per page for each of the first ten pages photocopied.
    • $.50 per page for the eleventh to twentieth pages photocopied.
    • $.25 per page for all pages over twenty photocopied.
    • The actual postage for any discovery report sent by mail. 
    • Photographs will be photocopied at the rates established herein. If requests are made for duplicate photographs, the actual cost of making the photographs shall be charged.
    • The request for a duplication of video or audio tapes will be done by department policy.  Call (973) 455-0500
    • On any item that cannot be photocopied on the Township's copier machine, or not otherwise provided for in this schedule, the actual cost paid by the Township to the vendor duplicating the requested material shall be paid by the requestor.
    • When the discovery must be obtained from an entity other than the Township of Harding, for example, another police department, the actual costs paid to the other entity shall be paid by the requestor.

    The fees to be charged for Accident and Incident reports are as follows:

    • $.75 per page for each of the first ten pages photocopied.
    • $.50 per page for the eleventh to twentieth pages photocopied.
    • $.25 per page for all pages over twenty photocopied.
    • The actual postage for any discovery report sent by mail. 
    • $5.00 for mailed accident reports only, pursuant to NJSA 39:4-131.
    • Current department charges for each video tape or audio tape reproduction.
    • $10.00 per photograph
