The Tax Collector's office bills and collects tax and sewer charges; enforces timely payments by taxpayers, delivers delinquency notices, and calculates interest on delinquencies. Additionally, the Tax Collector is a Tax Search Officer and all requests for municipal lien searches are conducted by the Tax Collector's office.
Tax Collection Information
For our upcoming 1st Quarter Property Tax and Sewer Utility billing due on February 1, 2018 and forward, the date of receipt shall be the date the funds are physically received in the Harding Township Tax office. Postmarks are not accepted as date of payment.
The grace period for February 1st, 2018 quarter is extended to Monday, February 12, 2018.
The drop box is checked once a day early every weekday morning. Payments placed in the drop box during the day, or after hours, will be considered received the next business day.
Methods of Payments
If taxes are delinquent, please call tax collection office for interest amount due.
Cash is accepted. Please bring your bill with you so that it can be properly receipted.
Checks are accepted. All checks should be payable to "Township of Harding" and include your block and lot number. Please bring your bill with you so it can be properly receipted.
Credit cards are not accepted in person, however you may make payment credit card payments online.
"After Hour Payments" - Drop Box
For your convenience, a drop box is located outside the Municipal Building for Tax and Sewer Utility payments. We ask that only tax and sewer utility payments be deposited into the drop box. This is for "After Hours" payments made by check: Payments made during office hours should be brought to the Tax Collector's office in the Municipal Building.
No cash should be put into the drop box. Be sure to put your payment and tax stub in a sealed envelope before placing it in the drop box. Pickup will be at the start of each business day. Any payment placed in the drop box will be considered as received the next business day. Payments may also be made online at www.hardingnj.org
Payments by mail should only be by check. Checks are payable to "Township of Harding". Please include your block and lot numbers on your check memo. If a receipt is needed, please send your entire bill along with a self addressed, stamped envelope. If a receipt is not needed, just send the proper quarterly stub your payment.
Credit cards are not accepted by mail.
Payment of property taxes and sewer utility fees may be made online through the municipal web page by clicking here.
Residents can choose to pay by credit card or through Automatic Clearing House (ACH) withdrawal. Credit card payments may be made by Visa, MasterCard, and Discover. A 2.45% convenience fee will be added for credit card payments. ACH Payments will have a $1.00 convenience fee per transactions.
Interest on delinquent property taxes and sewer fees will be automatically updated daily.
Any taxes remaining unpaid after the 10th day of February, May, August, and November are subject to interest, back to the first of that quarter. Interest is charged at the rate of 8% per year on the first $1,500.00 of delinquency and 18% per year over $1,500.00. Delinquency interest rate of 18% per year remains in effect until the amount due is brought current, even if the balance falls below $1,500.00. This in the New Jersey State Law.
Please notify the tax collector's office if:
- You change your mailing address
Our records need to be changed so you will receive all information and bills on the properties that you own in Harding Township.
- You're bank or mortgage company changes
- You pay off your mortgage and pay your own taxes
The Tax Collector's office keeps track of who is responsible for the taxes. If there are changes in your account, it is revised so mailings will go to the proper place. If your bank or mortgage company is escrowing your taxes, they receive the original tax bill and you will receive a copy. If you pay your own taxes, you will receive the original bills. Please contact the Tax Collection office with any changes.
Veteran and Senior Citizen Property Tax deduction forms are available in the Tax Office and here. Please note that only Veterans that served during wartime and or specific Peace Keeping Missions are eligible. The deduction for 2005 is $250.00. (Widows of Veterans that meet the guidelines are also eligible).
Senior Citizen deductions are based on age (must be 65 on or before 12/31 of the previous tax year) and meet specific income guidelines. An income statement is required along with an application and the annual deduction is $250.00, if qualified. The application form can be found here.
